Do you like to ride a Vespa?
I used dad’s Vespa. He’s bought it through government soft loan. Back then in 1986 government were offering their officers for transportation. The choices are between minibuses and motorcycles. If you have more money and dignity, you probably choose the minibus. Especially when Indonesian still respect cars more than motorcycle.
But if did not consider people’s respect, motorcycle would be enough. Especially when your wage is not that luxurious. Motorcycle features 2 stroke 150cc engine. When the design is Piaggio Vespa, you would have more luxury such as comfortable rain-riding since it has mud and splash guard.
Most of dad’s colleagues in the contrary chose car. Although the car surely had more wheels, but it was just a pickup truck (mini dump truck as you might say). Maximum load capacity would not exceed from 3 people. Basically, there was only a small difference between offered car and motorcycle. But monthly payment surely differed much more. While the motorcycle’s monthly payment only cost IDR 16,000 for 3 years, car costs IDR 45,000–almost tripled.
I like the power of 150cc. I like its weight which made me more careful when riding. I am dangerous rider on a regular motorcycle, like the popular underbone (aka bebek).
